Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble

In 2006, the Taipei Philharmonic initiated the formation of a youth string orchestra, comprising students from elementary and middle schools in northern Taiwan. The orchestra held weekly rehearsals and regular concerts. Following numerous successful performances, it expanded into a chamber orchestra and was officially named the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble in the fall of 2013.

Over the past decade, the orchestra has been dedicated to promoting classical music education among the youth. By establishing the first legally incorporated youth orchestra in Taiwan, it provides a platform for school-age children to showcase their musical talents. Esteemed young conductors, such as Liu Po-Hung, Yu Chia-Fu, and Chen Shih-Chieh, have been invited to lead the orchestra. The orchestra holds annual concerts and produces cross-disciplinary musical theater programs. Its goal is to introduce children aged 8 to 18 to various forms and styles of music through ensemble performance, fostering a professional attitude and ensemble synergy. This approach aims to develop a technically proficient and professionally mature youth orchestra. The orchestra also strives to help its members realize their potential, enhance their self-worth, and continue their musical journey with a positive mindset.

In the fall of 2016, the Taipei Philharmonic Youth String Ensemble was established to provide more performance opportunities for children. In addition to annual performances, the string orchestra participates in charity events, outdoor concerts, and other diverse forms of public engagement. The goal is for the children to inspire those around them through music and bring music to every corner of society. The orchestra has performed in Taipei, Yilan, Taoyuan, Miaoli, Penghu, and Matsu, using music to give back to the community and bring people closer to music through live performances.

In recent years, the orchestra has collaborated with numerous distinguished musicians, including pianists Meng-Ju Yeh, Hao-Wei Lin, Yi-Chih Lu, and Yu-Ting Chiang (Teacher Chiang); violinists Wu Ting-Yu, Chia-Hao Li, Chih-Hung Tseng, Jin-Chiang Chen, Adrian Anantawan, and Keng-Yuan Tseng; double bassist Ryohei Morita; and percussionists Huang Kun-Yen and Ho Hsin-Jung. In addition to regular domestic performances, the orchestra has increasingly focused on international exchanges to broaden its horizons and build future advantages. In 2014, the orchestra traveled to Kanazawa, Japan, for an exchange performance with the Kanazawa Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, it participated in the first Budapest Music Festival in Hungary. In 2016, the orchestra was invited to perform in Los Angeles and at Disneyland in California. In 2017, it participated in the Lisbon Music Festival in Portugal to great acclaim. In 2018, the orchestra traveled to Munich, Germany, for an exchange performance with the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra. In 2019, it performed at the Brescia Music Institute in Italy. In 2023, the orchestra exchanged performances with the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland and participated in the Singapore GSF International Music Festival, where it received the "Most Outstanding Award," the highest honor from the jury.
