Entdecke das Watt - Geführte Wattwanderung im Nordseebad Otterndorf
Discover the Wadden Sea | The ideal mudflat hike for everyone: adults, families, children & teenagers
On our one and a half to two-hour mudflat hikes to or in the Otterndorf mudflats, experienced mudflat guides will show you the hidden treasures of the impressive animal and plant world, because some things are only recognizable at second glance...
For example, lugworms are small civil engineers and build the unmistakable small mounds on the mudflat floor. And in general, all the little sea creatures hide from the birds that are presented with a rich feast on the seabed during low tide. In summer, oystercatchers can be observed particularly well during their search for food, while in winter it is more likely to be sanderlings.
Equipped with a fork, bucket, and sieve, your mudflat guide will take you into this impressive natural landscape to show you this natural space and discover it together with you.
Along the way, you will not only learn (almost) everything about the North Sea and the Wadden Sea, but you will also receive many pieces of information about the Otterndorf drainage system, the global shipping route Elbe, why the dike is so important, and much more.
When the weather is cooler, remember to wear sturdy shoes or rubber boots and weatherproof clothing. For sensitive feet, we generally recommend wearing mudflat hiking/water shoes. For example, you can buy so-called "Beachies" at our tourist information. It is also advisable to bring something to drink.
Tickets for the mudflat hike are only available in advance.
FAMILY NOTE:
Both guided mudflat hikes are suitable for families, and our mudflat guides always interact with the participating children. The guided family mudflat hike, our other mudflat hiking option, is simply more tailored to the needs of families with younger children (4 - 8 years). The children can do more things themselves there (age-appropriate), the distance in the mudflat is shorter, and the information to be conveyed is less and more playful. However, even during the "normal" mudflat hike, no child will get bored, as the natural space of the mudflat is simply exciting.
NOTE ON BARRIER POVERTY
We also want to enable people with mobility impairments to experience the Wadden Sea up close. Our non-motorized mudflat mobility scooter can be pushed effortlessly over the muddy floor due to its large wheels and can even overcome smaller obstacles. The mudflat mobility scooter cannot be moved under its own power, it requires a helping hand to push it.
