Life-affirming joy and heart-wrenching sorrow were often closely intertwined for Gustav Mahler. A dark year for him was 1907: In July, his eldest daughter died, his marriage to Alma lay in ruins, and a heart condition was diagnosed. Mahler's reaction: retreat. In his composing hut in Toblach, "Das Lied von der Erde" was created in the following year – possibly the most personal work he ever created, as he himself stated. A sonic glimpse at earthly existence, which the WKO and Risto Joost unfold in a delicate chamber arrangement by Glen Cortese. Preceding Mahler’s late work is the "Symphonic Serenade" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Mahler supported his career as much as he could: When he first heard the nine-year-old Korngold play, he reportedly called him a "genius" with enthusiasm.

»Hornung is from another planet. A young prodigy who combines the coolness of a veteran with the carefree spirit of a free spirit,« praised »Die Zeit« about the young Maximilian Hornung. By now, the native of Augsburg has established himself in the top league of cellists. His warmhearted and technically perfect playing delights everywhere. In Heilbronn, Hornung brings Othmar Schoeck's cello concerto out of the repertoire niche. With his Opus 61, the Swiss composer, who is primarily recognized as a vocal composer, created "songs without words," in which a single sonorous instrument stands against the orchestra, thereby separating itself as a voice from the whole. Swiss colors also at the podium: Mario Venzago, one of the esteemed "old masters" of the international conducting scene.

Hagen Rether - Liebe

Rether is tragic, comical, painful, contagious: the constantly mutating program (with the same title every time) causes lasting dissatisfaction and encourages self-reflection. For up to three and a half hours, the cabaret artist passionately pleads for enlightenment, compassion, against double standards and consumerist shallowness: change is possible – if we want it.
