Sommerfest
Comedy by Frank Goosen
“Elsewhere, he knows himself who he is. Here, others know it. That is home.” The plan is quite clear. Friday from Munich to the Ruhr area, visiting Grandma, meeting the realtor to organize the sale of the old pit house, meeting a few old acquaintances, and then off he goes, back to real life. That’s how Stefan envisioned it. But faster than he can grasp any thought, he is right in the middle of memories and surrounded by all those who have always determined his life: Grandma Luise, whom he visits far too rarely, the guys who immediately draw him back in, Toto, Diggo, Karin, the confusion machine, and above all Charlie, his childhood love, who completes the emotional chaos. With each encounter, with each event, with each new craziness, the suspicion grows that he should reconsider some life decisions.
Frank Goosen has written a hilarious hometown novel, a crazy road trip into the past, full of lovable characters that we all know, who ignite the longing for the core of our lives in their normality. After the film adaptation by Sönke Wortmann, “Sommerfest” will also send the audience back to their own youth as a stage play and let us indulge in memories.
