Quadro Nuevo - Happy Deluxe
The youth friends Mulo Francel and Didi Lowka founded the ensemble Quadro Nuevo in 1996. Since then, the adventurous artists have traveled to countless places from Helsinki to Hong Kong, from the Caucasus to Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Through their daring way of making music, they have received the ECHO award twice, a Gold Record, the German Record Critics' Award, and several Jazz Awards.
With the extravagant and playful accordionist Andreas Hinterseher and the brilliantly creative pianist Chris Gall, they live their music in the here and now. This evokes images of four guys who joyfully made music while wandering through southern town squares and fairs. This happened during the beginnings of Quadro Nuevo.
Later, they spent time in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, rehearsing for days in the sweltering midday heat, going out in the evenings, diving headfirst into the scene, accompanying dancers, indulging in rich wine, Caipirinha, and fresh Brazilian music directly from the source.
The result was the new album HAPPY Deluxe.
From here, the virtuosos embark into improvisational new territory, sometimes soaring into buzzing heights, sometimes diving into glittering Mediterranean seas, sometimes whimsically spun in daydreams and night fervor.
Quadro Nuevo explains this auditory homage to moments of happiness:
“Our music has always emerged from experiences and encounters. The joyfulness and friendliness of many people in Brazil fascinated us. It colored our songs.
Thus, the title of the album came to be. We are fully aware that the everyday life of many people is anything but carefree. Nevertheless – or precisely because of this – even in times of crises and wars, music should offer a positive counterworld.”
