Like Heine, Eichendorff, and Mörike, he became part of the common heritage of the Germans. It is his poems that reflect immediate experience, it is his numerous novellas that include love, renunciation, disappointment, or a dramatic struggle with nature that are at the center of the evening. We visit him with his life story way up in the far north, in his birthplace Husum. We also encounter the political Theodor Storm who was close to the Schleswig-Holstein Freedom Struggles.

Hildegard Knef had her last concert in Hamburg in 1986. She became famous already in the post-war period with her first major film success in 1946 in Wolfgang Staudes' "The Murderers Are Among Us", not to forget the film "The Sinner", a scandal in the conservative and prudish Adenauer era, and last but not least her Hollywood and Broadway career.

In 1962, her career as a chanson singer began, which made her just as famous as her career as an actress. Many of her songs reflect her life story.

"Schreiben war leben, überleben" (Writing was life, survival) is the title of the event featuring: Barbara Kleyboldt (recitation),

 where poems and prose by Rose Ausländer are recited against the background of her biography.-

A journey is made from childhood in Bukovina, through times of emigration and

life in the Czernowitz Ghetto to her old age in Düsseldorf-Golzheim.

In her poems, Rose Ausländer traces the stages of her life, with a simple and artistic choice of words
