Bummelkasten - Irgendwas Bestimmtes
Bummelkasten's music videos are clicked thousands of times daily. The Berlin one-man band has comfortably sprawled in the German children's music shelves with their entirely mouth-made debut album "Irgendwas Bestimmtes" and is euphorically thrilling children, parents, and non-parents. Their songs have a pull that is hard to escape. No wonder: This pop-happy a-cappella beatbox sound - which comes across wonderfully unrefined and entertaining with its intricate arrangements as well as its vocal and musical playfulness - has few equals, not just in the children's genre. With sophisticated lyrics and quirky humor, Bummelkasten leans far out of the drawer, thus exploring artistic new territory. "Come on, please!" - the often used, politely beautified phrase of many guardians - is presented so forcefully in the eponymous song and is returned so often with an infantile "Yeahaa" that it almost hurts. In "Hiking," a devilishly casual song about - well - hiking, the themes of nature and media consumption merge. But it is especially Bummelkasten's quirky characters that children enjoy: Max, the escalator-riding toilet paper thief. Susi, the toughest of all princesses, who loves to grill pony sausage and drives her monster truck to the baker. Shiny, the light fairy, who treats herself to a trip through the solar system but quickly gets fed up with every planet visited. Bulli Battmann, a nasty schoolyard terror who cries into his pillow at night, or caretaker Klaus, the smartest caretaker ever. Since the first Lollapalooza festival in Berlin, Bummelkasten has been a resident and the annual highlight of "Kidzapalooza," the simultaneously running family branch. He performs casually from his chair during stage appearances. Besides the humorously performed songs, it is especially his loop station interludes that bring great joy. So take your sticky fingers off the sofa, take off your non-slip socks, and go pee again: Bummelkasten is in town!
