Thomas Schreckenberger - Irre sind menschlich
Often, while reading the news in the morning, one gets the feeling that they are the only normal person in the world. Then you meet the neighbor, and suddenly you are quite sure of it!
Sometimes, in light of our fellow humans, one could almost despair: crazy extremists threaten democracy, greedy profiteers endanger the environment, and the participants of "Bauer sucht Frau" threaten one's sanity!
And the internet is increasingly becoming a domain where mainly people wander around who make Hannibal Lecter appear like a nice guy with somewhat questionable food preferences. Agitators, conspiracy theorists, and science deniers set the tone, and one almost wishes for the times when such people could simply be handed over to the passing circus.
Many questions race through one's mind:
Is the world one big asylum? Why am I in it too? And what can I do?
Should I, in the spirit of Lothar Matthäus, stick my head in the sand? But even that is becoming scarce. Just run away from it all? But where to go if you can even encounter a group of retired senior teachers in the most remote corner of the Amazon? Even on Mars, you are no longer safe because Elon Musk might be waiting for you!
So nothing helps – it’s time to roll up your sleeves and declare war on the misery!
Thomas Schreckenberger, awarded numerous small art prizes (e.g. Kleinkunstpreis Baden-Württemberg, Tuttlinger Krähe, etc.), takes aim at all the lunatics in politics, society, and daily life.
Of course, characters from our political and celebrity scene also occasionally make appearances, which Thomas Schreckenberger brings to the stage as convincingly real parodies, some of whom are more part of the problem than the solution.
Often, the fight against the crazies of the world seems hopeless, as they frequently possess money, power, and influence, but there remains a powerful weapon: humor! For as the great Werner Finck once recognized: “Smiling is the most elegant way to show your opponents your teeth!”
The realization will remain that while cabaret cannot change the world, it can at least change the mood of the audience and the bank account of the artist. And that’s at least a start!
