Figurentheater Lille Kartofler - Die Prinzessin auf der Erbse
Traditionally, from December 2nd to 6th, 2024, a Christmas fairytale will take place again at the Bürgerhaus Schortens! Matthias Kuchta, alias "Figurentheater Lille Kartofler," presents “Die Prinzessin auf der Erbse” based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The puppet play follows the fairy tale of the Danish poet but sets its own interpretive accents in the staging, the design of the characters, and the performance of the scenes. The conflict between appearance and reality, which forms the core of the fairy tale, is vividly demonstrated by the puppets – until the princess, with her shabby appearance and carefree, lively demeanor, fits so poorly with the elegant pomp, grumpiness, and narrowness of the court, is allowed to marry her prince after passing the test with the single pea hidden beneath twenty mattresses, blankets, and pillows.
Soft, child-sized plush puppets are used for the performance. The puppets are maneuvered on the floor in front of, and sometimes between, the children. The performer is always visible but is quickly no longer noticed by the children. All characters are controlled by one performer. Moreover, the performer acts as a court servant and fairy tale narrator. The audience sits in a semicircle around the performance area, where simply a large, soft, lively "picture book is flipped open."
Performances for kindergartens and primary schools begin at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM, respectively. Registration for the morning performances is exclusively through the Bürgerhaus Schortens at Tel. 04461 - 80198 or buergerhaus@schortens.de.
On Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at 3:00 PM, we will additionally offer a public afternoon performance for individuals and small groups. The entrance fee is €5 per person.
