Johannes Brahms - „Ein getanztes Requiem“
Brahms referred to his German Requiem as “Beatitudes of the Afflicted,” which is considered one of the most significant works in music history. Perhaps precisely because it completely turns away from ecclesiastical conventions and is dedicated to the bereaved. It is meant to comfort us and probably also comforted Brahms at the time when he lost his friend Robert Schumann. The Latin text – intended for ecclesiastical ritual – is replaced by the German Bible verses selected by Brahms. It took many years to complete this symmetrical work in seven movements, which speaks to each one of us.
The renowned euregio oratorienchor, under the direction of music director André Gold, is also taking new paths as conventional boundaries are broken once again during the concert performance in piano arrangement on 17.11.2024 at Schloss Pertenstein, where dancers join the choir, musicians, and soloists. Together with pianists Afroditi Stein-Stylianidou and Sigrid Weigl, the well-known harpist Silke Aichhorn, vocal soloists Philipp Mayer and Réka Szabó, timpanist Anno Kesting, as well as Katka's Dance Academy, the audience will experience a new dimension: a “danced requiem.”
