Among the many excellent emerging quartets, the Leonkoro Quartett (Esperanto for: Lionheart) is a very special one. Founded in Berlin in 2019, the two brothers Jonathan (Violin) and Lukas Schwarz (Cello), along with their two companions on violin and viola, have taken the international chamber music audience by storm: In just one year, 2022, the four initially received the Music Award from the Jürgen Ponto Foundation, then the First Prize at the International String Quartet Competition in London's Wigmore Hall (along with nine other special prizes), followed by the First Prize at the Concours International de Quatuor in Bordeaux (including the Audience Prize and the Young Audience Prize), and finally also the MERITO String Quartet Award!
Mentors and teachers of the quartet included and include, among others, Heime Müller (Artemis Quartett), Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett), and pianist Alfred Brendel.
In the 2023/24 concert season, the ensemble released its debut CD featuring works by Schumann and Ravel, and made guest appearances in the Philharmonies in Berlin and Cologne, at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Konzerthaus Vienna. It also received invitations to the Rheingau Music Festival, to “Heidelberger Frühling”, and to the String Quartet Biennale in Paris.
Doors open approximately 30 minutes before the concert starts.
