»Das Klavierkonzert lässt Bilder norwegischer Landschaften entstehen, der Schönheit, aber auch der Kälte. Ja, es ist einfach wunderschön«, schwärmt der Pianist Jan Lisiecki über Edvard Griegs populäres Jugendwerk. Plastische Naturbilder und Naturgefühle insgesamt bilden den roten Faden dieses romantischen Programms unter Leitung von Alain Altinoglu. Denn das a-Moll-Klavierkonzert des Norwegers Grieg wird eingerahmt von der Konzertouvertüre »In der Natur«, in die Antonín Dvořák stilisierte Vogelrufe eingearbeitet hat, und von Johannes Brahms’ 2. Sinfonie. Sie gilt als seine »Pastorale«, entstanden ist sie ganz naturnah am Wörthersee – »da fliegen die Melodien, dass man [sich] hüten muss, keine zu treten«, so der Komponist. Und dazwischen eben das hoch virtuose Klanglandschaftskonzert vom »Chopin des Nordens«, wie Grieg einmal genannt wurde – das der Kanadier Jan Lisiecki so ungemein licht, transparent und kaum auftrumpfend zu interpretieren versteht. Denn, so der Pianist: »Es geht nicht darum, Menschen zu beeindrucken, sondern sie zu inspirieren.«

»The Piano Concerto conjures up images of Norwegian landscapes, of beauty, but also of cold. Yes, it´s simply beautiful,« pianist Jan Lisiecki enthuses about Edvard Grieg´s popular youthful work. Plastic images and feelings of nature as a whole form the common thread of this romantic program conducted by Alain Altinoglu. For the Norwegian Grieg´s A minor Piano Concerto is framed by the concert overture »In Nature,« into which Antonín Dvořák incorporated stylized birdcalls, and by Johannes Brahms´ 2nd Symphony. It is considered his »Pastoral« and was written very close to nature on Lake Wörthersee – »there the melodies fly so that one must be careful not to tread on them,« according to the composer. And in between, the highly virtuosic soundscape concerto by the »Chopin of the North,« as Grieg was once called – which the Canadian Jan Lisiecki knows how to interpret in such a tremendously light, transparent and hardly showy way. Because, says the pianist, »It´s not about impressing people, but inspiring them.«
