For Paul Potts, born in Bristol, music has always been a source of comfort through years of bullying, financial hardship, medical setbacks, and lack of self-confidence. For this reason, he took the opportunity to perform in the first episode of Britain’s Got Talent. The mobile phone seller took to the microphone in front of the judges to present his interpretation of Nessun Dorma. As his voice soared, Britain – and the whole world – fell in love with his story and his incredible talent. Ultimately, he won the first season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2007, which changed his life forever. On his tour in winter 2025, Paul Potts will be joined by trumpet virtuoso and entertainer Kevin Pabst, as well as pianist Florian Schäfer.

In this special chamber concert, we want to present four masterpieces of baroque trio sonatas by Georg Friedrich Händel and Jan Dismas Zelenka. In doing so, we showcase the full range of instrumentation possibilities of this genre with strings and winds, both in the melodic voices and in the basso continuo group. It is wonderful that Andreas Spering makes it his priority to bring these special works to the chamber music stage together with musicians of the Brandenburg Symphoniker from the harpsichord.

THE GINGERBREAD MAN

At night in the kitchen, chaos reigns. As soon as the "grown-ups" are asleep and the lights go out, the magical hour begins on the kitchen counter. Mr. Cuckoo, Salt, and Pepper come to life and drive away boredom together. But tonight is different. Suddenly there's someone new: a freshly baked gingerbread man – cheeky, curious, and full of energy.

But there's no time for a big introduction, because Mr. Cuckoo has lost his voice. And without his "Cuckoo" on the hour, a terrible fate awaits him – the trash can. Help is needed! Together with his new friends, the gingerbread man sets off on an adventurous quest for the healing elixir. But it's located right next to the old tea bag lady, who has little patience for the noisy cake residents…

A turbulent Christmas fairy tale full of music, wit, and excitement – about courage, friendship, and the question: What truly makes us valuable?

The little rabbit gathers all his courage and sets out to get the missing things from the neighbors. But the big star is unfortunately with the nasty goose. A little rabbit can't dare to go there – or can he?

In the end, the celebration works out, and even more guests come than expected.

Natallia will take you to her Belarusian homeland, while Frederik bridges to the traditions rooted here. And as always, there will be plenty to sing along!

To begin, Otto Nicolai's "Christmas Overture" will resonate, capturing the festive mood and celebrations of the Christmas season in magnificent orchestral sound. Nicolai combines Christmas themes with a lively, ceremonial musical language in this overture.

Next, we will hear Johann Sebastian Bach's Overture in C Major, BWV 1066, a masterpiece of the Baroque era that transports the listener into the majestic sound world of the 18th century with its elegant structure and splendid orchestral music. Bach's virtuosity and profound musicality make the overture a highlight of the evening. And if anyone fits with Christmas, it is certainly Bach!

Igor Stravinsky's arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach's "From Heaven Above" is a modern interpretation of Bach's choral work, bringing Baroque harmonies to light in a new, fascinating way – a powerful fusion of tradition and innovation, in which the City and Cathedral Choir of Brandenburg will also play a small but fine role.

The evening culminates with Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel Suite, which brings together scenes from his famous opera "Hansel and Gretel" into a captivating orchestral suite. With enchanting melodies and a mix of childlike innocence and dramatic moments, Humperdinck brings the fairy tale world to life, rounding off the evening in a festive manner.

An evening concert full of festive (pre-)joy that celebrates the beauty of the Advent and Christmas season with musical classics and treats, as well as a characteristically masterful performance of them.

The musician Michael Gusenbauer retells Bach's Christmas Oratorio for families: "A long time ago, a composer, someone who writes music, was so happy about the Christ Child that he wanted to tell us the story again through his music. And this music is so beautiful that it is still often played at Christmas today. The story begins in a field, at night ..."

In Gusenbauer's fresh and humorous narration, particularly vivid musical examples are incorporated, which also convey the musical instruments and their characteristics to the children in an unorthodox way - without disempowering knowledgeable listeners.
