On Wednesday afternoons, the Gelnhausen Museum opens its pottery workshop at the KulturHerberge in Schützengraben. From a simple lump of clay, participants create their own individual small works of art for home, garden, or balcony with their own hands under guidance. Thanks to a wide selection of glazes, there are almost no limits to creativity.
People have been working with clay for over 20,000 years, creating all kinds of useful, practical, or simply beautiful things from it.
In the open workshop, the raw pieces are crafted in rotation and glazed in the following week. In the subsequent week, pottery will be done again, then glazed, and so on. The results can be picked up a few days later, as the glaze needs to be fired.
At each session, a specific project is crafted under guidance. Simpler objects like bowls, dishes, plates, or similar can also be made "on one's own."
Adults pay €30 and children €18 for both sessions to participate in the open pottery workshop. Additionally, material costs range from €5 to €25 per piece, depending on the size of the object and the associated material and energy consumption.
A maximum of 8 people can craft pottery under guidance per session. Children can participate without age restrictions if accompanied by an adult; children from 10 years old may craft alone, and of course, adults are welcome to come and craft without accompanying children.
The pottery workshop opens every Wednesday afternoon at KuH (Schützengraben 5) between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
