This rare but fascinating chamber music formation will delight both classical concertgoers and guitar lovers as well as young people alike. Friedemann Wuttke interprets this extraordinarily varied program with musicians from the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Stuttgart Philharmonic. Guest performer is the percussionist Felix Matzura.

A long-standing musical friendship is celebrated by the "Ludwigsburger Blechbläser-Quintett" and the "Uli-Gutscher-Trio" with their production this year, "Classic, Swing & Brass." The jazz trio swings, grooves, and improvises together with the five from LBQ over compositions by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and other musical greats. Especially in the quieter pieces like the "Air" by J.S. Bach, in the style of Jacques Loussier's Play Bach, or in "Moon over Bourbon Street" by Sting, the two ensembles blend seamlessly in unison and in improvisation. An eventful and versatile live evening within the framework of the Alpirsbach Monastery Concerts is to be expected by the audience. Following the special audience support in 2024, the ensembles have once again expanded and revised the joint program, incorporating many more ideas into the concert sequence. Since 2009, it has repeatedly succeeded in bringing two such high-class formations together on stage at festivals and in various concert series, combining different musical and sound worlds. Joint CD recordings serve as proof of the innovative spirit of the eight musician friends.

A fresh and gripping musical approach and stylistic diversity from the Old to the New Music are the hallmarks of the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim. The ensemble, consisting of fourteen musicians from seven nations, is one of the very few "full-time" chamber orchestras in Europe: This allows for an extraordinary homogeneity and flexibility of the sound image, which is also maintained in larger formations with wind instruments and additional strings from a stable core of musicians.
Founded in 1950, the chamber orchestra is performing in Alpirsbach for the 10th time.

Soloist Liv Migdal
Liv Migdal, who comes from an artistic family – her father an internationally renowned musician and pianist, her mother a writer – began her violin studies as an eleven-year-old junior student with Christiane Hutcap at the University of Music and Theatre in Rostock, where she completed her diploma examination. She continued her artistic training in the master class of Igor Ozim at the Salzburg Mozarteum, followed by a postgraduate study in early music with Reinhard Goebel. After graduating with distinction in her master’s degree, Liv Migdal was honored in Austria with the Paul-Roczek Music Award for outstanding violin playing.

Since her early concert appearances, Liv Migdal has received numerous international music awards and scholarships, including the First Prize at the International Ruggiero-Ricci Violin Competition Salzburg, the international Hindemith Competition Berlin, the GWK Music Prize Münster, the Fritz Kreisler Competition Vienna, and the Mozart Society.

Those who have been to Munich's Königsplatz may have discovered it: Arcisstraße, which became the namesake of the Arcis Saxophon Quartet 15 years ago. Having long outgrown the “world city with heart,” the quartet is now among the most active classical ensembles worldwide. Whether at the highest pass in Ecuador, in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert, on a rock in the American Atlantic, or in the sold-out Philharmonic halls in Munich and Berlin… the four saxophonists feel at home everywhere with their music.
They have acquired chamber music skills from the best of the best. They studied with the Artemis Quartet at the UdK in Berlin and at the training ground of the European Chamber Music Academy, as well as at the HMT Munich with Prof. Koryun Asatryan and Prof. Friedemann Berger.
The "quartet of international caliber" is performing for the first time at the Alpirsbacher Kreuzgang Concerts.

This evening is all about Bach; more specifically, about his Well-Tempered Clavier. Arcis will record all 48 fugues in a new version for saxophone quartet over the next few years and commissioned 48 composers from around the world to write a new prelude each. We will hear an excerpt from this by Arcis.
