What do a taxi driver in Oman, his Pakistani, Indian, and German passengers, Colombian English teachers, cover bands in the Maldives, Indonesian TikTokers, and about 300,000 people daily on Spotify have in common?
They probably can also sing these lines:
I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
What the Fools Garden masterminds Peter Freudenthaler and Volker Hinkel created in 1995 is nothing less than one of the very few global hits that come from Germany.
Whether on the radio or through streaming services, whether live in a hotel bar or at home from CD: This song is surely played at least ten times per second somewhere in the world.
With such impressive superlatives, it is easily forgotten that Fools Garden have also released another five singles in the Top 100 of the German charts since the all-dominating lemon tree in 1995, published eight albums, and played countless successful concerts worldwide.
An absolute highlight of their impressive live career, which demonstrated the importance and acceptance of the band in the German music scene, was the recent concert celebrating the 33rd birthday of the band, where the who’s who of the German music scene shared the stage: In addition to Laith Al-Deen, Fury In The Slaughterhouse, Die Prinzen, Dieter-Thomas Kuhn, Peter Schilling, Julia Neigel, and Pe Werner, over 30 other artists were guests at the three-day event, which was additionally accompanied by the SWR Big Band and will be broadcast in July 2025 on SWR.
This concert broadcast also serves as a sort of kickoff for a ‘Dish Of The Day’ year, as 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the album that contains the aforementioned global hit and reached number 1 in the German album charts in March 1996!
So there is much to celebrate, and Fools Garden are planning something big!
To properly celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Dish Of The Day’, the band from Pforzheim will release a revised premium edition of the original album on CD and 180g colored vinyl in gatefold sleeve with great additional content in November 2025.
Also in the second half of the year, a band biography of the 'Very Big Hit Wonder' will be available in bookstores, making all the anecdotes and experiences of Peter Freudenthaler and his men accessible to a broad audience.
The undeniable highlight follows in Spring 2026, when Fools Garden will bring their successful album back to the stages of this republic live in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its pole position in the German album charts!
At more than 15 dates of the ‘Dish Of The Day’ tour, all the band’s hits and favorite songs will be performed, there will be rocking, celebrating, reminiscing, and singing along as if the last 30 years were just one day, and we can all feel like we did in 1995, when we were young, wild, and carefree, while a German band from Pforzheim set out to conquer the world. And succeeded.
“... and all that I can see is just another lemon tree.”
