KSENIJA SIDOROVA & SIGNUM SAXOPHONE QUARTET
“ANIMA”

Stage talk with Ksenija Sidorova & SIGNUM saxophone quartet: 18:30
When the accordion connects with saxophones, sounds emerge in the most natural way: through air and breath. “Anima” means breath, spirit, and soul and is regarded in many cultures as the essence of life – as a symbol of freedom that sustains and connects us. Free from constraints, open to new experiences.
In their new project “ANIMA”, the acclaimed accordionist Ksenija Sidorova and the saxophonists of the SIGNUM Quartet literally breathe new life into music. Starting from the idea that diversity is not a privilege but a necessity, they have chosen a wide range of music – from Bach, Stravinsky, Gershwin, and Piazzolla to contemporary composers like Max Richter.
The interpretations are multifaceted and transcend stereotypes between cultures in the northern and southern hemispheres, with the all-unifying idea that magic only occurs together.
Born in Riga, Ksenija Sidorova is regarded as a leading global ambassador of the classical accordion, uniquely combining technical brilliance with expressive musicality. Her repertoire includes works from over three centuries as well as an ever-growing number of pieces composed specifically for her.
She has performed worldwide with major orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Munich Philharmonic, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. In the upcoming season, concerts are scheduled at the Zurich Tonhalle, Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, and the Vienna Concert Hall, among others.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is everything but ordinary: four outstanding saxophonists who have known each other since their studies and continually reinvent themselves. Musical boundary-pushers, where a deep dedication to the sound of the classical string quartet goes hand in hand with a great enthusiasm for the rock classics of our time, combined with impressive virtuosity.
